National monthly magazine
Since I was a young girl, I believed in the power of stories - I believed that words had the potential to change your life, and at the very least, make you pause and reflect on your journey. Through a writing workshop, I was discovered by the editor of the national magazine Life Positive and given the opportunity to act as a monthly paid writer through my own column. I used that opportunity to explore my writer's itch to the fullest - sharing fictional stories derived from my own experiences and reflections about the world around me - from the path to permanent happiness, the role of family, the shyness of wearing spectacles for the first time, to the joy of becoming an adult with the bittersweet realisation that we would no longer be children. It was also the first time in my life I earned financially for my work - and I used my first stipend to buy earrings for my mother and my favourite school teacher.
